Kurdistan Region Awaits Approval for Seven Unofficial Border Crossings to Gain Official Recognition

The Kurdistan Region is eagerly awaiting approval from the federal government of Iraq for the official recognition of seven currently unofficial border crossing points. These potential points of entry are strategically located along the Kurdistan Region's borders with neighboring countries, and officials believe they meet all the necessary criteria for formal recognition.

Samal Abdulrahman, the director general of customs in the Kurdistan Region, revealed that these unofficial border crossings are well-equipped and prepared for formal recognition. The seven locations seeking recognition include Kele, Sayranban, FishKhabur, Sartak, Tawela, Sarzere, and Zet.

The Kurdistan Region shares extensive land borders with Iran and Turkey, two crucial trading partners for both Erbil and Baghdad. Some of the existing official border crossings, such as Haji Omaran, Parvez Khan, Ibrahim Khalil, and Bashmakh, facilitate essential trade and commerce between the region and these neighboring nations.

Formal recognition of these seven additional border crossing points could significantly enhance the Kurdistan Region's economic ties and facilitate smoother cross-border trade. As such, it is eagerly anticipated that the federal government of Iraq will grant approval for these border crossings, further strengthening the region's position in the international trade landscape.
