Kurdistan Regional Government Initiates Flood Protection Projects in Erbil at a Cost of Over 2 Billion Dinars

In an effort to safeguard Erbil and its surroundings from potential floods, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has directed the implementation of three strategic projects with a total cost exceeding 2 billion dinars.

The announcement was made today by Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw in an official statement. He revealed, "Upon the decision of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, and to protect the city of Erbil and its vicinity from floods, three strategic projects will be implemented at a cost of 2.1 billion dinars."

As outlined in the statement, the projects include the construction of concrete natural channels in Kerdjoutiar, concrete barriers along the Zilan city waterfront, and the establishment of an eight-eyed bridge in the village of Tandur, affiliated with the Shemakha district.

Khoshnaw stated, "Currently, all projects are under construction and aim to protect the city of Erbil from the damages caused by floods. Upon completion, they will have a significant impact in minimizing the effects of floods."

He further explained, "These projects will create pathways for rainwater, allowing the water to flow through these channels to protect the designated areas."
