Iraqi Prime Minister Confirms Initiative to End International Coalition Presence

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani has announced that his government is actively working to determine the commencement date for the bilateral committee tasked with establishing arrangements for the final withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq. Reiterating a steadfast commitment to concluding the presence of the international coalition in the country, Prime Minister Al-Sudani made these remarks during a memorial event organized by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on the fourth anniversary of the deaths of Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in Baghdad.

Al-Sudani, in his address, highlighted the existing strategic partnership agreement and diplomatic relations between Iraq and the United States. However, he expressed concern about the breach of fundamental principles of international relations and the UN Charter's emphasis on equality in sovereignty among nations and the prohibition of the use of force in international relations.

The Prime Minister noted the heightened tensions in the region since October 7 of the previous year, attributing it to the aggressive and criminal policies against Palestinians by the occupying authorities in Gaza and the occupied territories. Al-Sudani warned of serious repercussions for the region and the world if the brutal practices in Gaza persist.

Referring to repeated incidents in Iraq, he pointed out the most dangerous ones involving attacks by international coalition forces on the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces. Al-Sudani emphasized that the PMF represents an official presence subordinate to the state and an integral part of the armed forces.

He affirmed that in case of any breach or violation of Iraqi law by any Iraqi entity, the Iraqi government is the sole authority to investigate such infractions. Stressing the government's commitment to upholding the law, Al-Sudani stated, "The government is empowered to enforce the law, and everyone should act through it. No one should bypass Iraq's sovereignty."

Addressing the attacks targeting Iraqi security forces, the Prime Minister underscored the government's readiness to make appropriate decisions in safeguarding Iraq's sovereignty, security, and stability. He confirmed ongoing efforts to determine the start date of dialogue through the bilateral committee established to finalize the withdrawal arrangements, emphasizing that the government will not waver in fulfilling its commitment to completing national sovereignty over Iraq's land, airspace, and waters.
