Kurdish-Led SDF Office in Rojava Targeted in Terrorist Attack

In a concerning development, the political wing of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has condemned a recent bombing incident targeting their office in the northeastern Syrian city of Qamishli.

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), representing the SDF's political interests, issued a statement denouncing the attack, which occurred on Monday evening, February 26. According to reports, unidentified perpetrators hurled an improvised explosive device (IED) at the SDF office's premises, causing significant material damage.

"We strongly condemn this assault. We emphasize that the parties behind this attack aim to undermine our national stances, which involve promoting intra-Syrian dialogue at the domestic level and ultimately achieving the democratic transition in Syria," the SDC stated.

Rojava's internal security forces, known as the Asayish, have initiated an investigation into the incident to apprehend those responsible and ascertain the motives behind the attack.

The SDF, backed by the United States, played a pivotal role in combating the Islamic State (ISIS) following the group's rapid expansion across Syria in 2014. Notably, the SDF was instrumental in the defeat of ISIS in its last stronghold in Syria in 2019, resulting in the capture of thousands of ISIS militants, as well as their families.

Despite the severity of the attack, no entity or party has claimed responsibility at this time, leaving the motive and perpetrators shrouded in mystery.

The assault on the SDF office underscores the persistent security challenges facing the region, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and efforts to safeguard stability amidst ongoing geopolitical complexities in Syria.
