Italy to make Halabja monument
Italy’s foreign ministry has confirmed rumors of making a Halabja monument in Mazzarino, Sicily Saturday.

The vice president of Sicily and the Mazzarino foreign affairs minister along with a collective delegate visited the city of Halabja and were received by both the Halabja mayor and the head of Halabja municipality and afterwards visited the Halabja monument.

In a statement for the media press, the Mazzarino foreign affairs minister shed light on his goal in initiating the establishment of the Halabja monument in Italy by the end of 2012.

The minister believes founding the monument is a vital and necessary step in making the Halabja genocide known to the world.

The Halabja monument in Kurdistan is roughly 20 meters high and sits on many pillars. The monument is in commemoration of the Halabja gas attacks, more widely known as the Halabja genocide attacks on March 16, 1988. Saddam Hussein, along with his accomplice Ali Hassan Al-Majid bombarded the city of Halabja with chemical weapons killing more than 5000 and physically displacing thousands of others.
