Islamic party emir: We will do everything to return Mulla Krekar
Islamic Movement of Kurdistan (IMK) will do its best to return Mulla Krekar, the former leader of the IMK, said the new IMK emir.
"We will do whatever we can to return Mulla Krekar [to Kurdistan] because there are no charges against him," said Erfan Abdul-Aziz.

The remark by the new IMK emir was made during a press conference today in Safir Hotel in Erbil.

55-year old Mulla Krekar,( real name Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad ) led the Ansar al-Islam organization, founded in 2001, as a merger of Jund al-Islam (Soldiers of Islam), and a splinter group from IMK.

He arrived in Oslo, Norway as an asylum seeker in 1991. From there he founded and ran Ansar al-Islam, considered by many international organizations and countries as a terrorist organization.

Krekar, who claims to have left the group in 2002, is also believed to have made several trips to Iraq to lead the group.

The US forces jointly with Peshmarga forces of Kurdistan launched raids against Ansar al-Islam group, based in the Hawraman area, bordering with Iran, and dispersed the group.

On March 26, 2012 Krekar was sentenced to five years in prison for making online death threats against Norwegian officials and three Kurdish men.
