In an operation initiated by the KRG’s National Security Council in the Iuzeri village of the Dafuq district, terrorists have been identified in the area, setting off on-going firefights between the two forces.

The on-going operation consists of the Kirkuk Police Department Special Forces, Iraqi Military Forces, and a group of Iraqi journalists.

The KRG National Security Council has informed PUKmedia that Frsan Salih Ilwan, a high ranking leader of the radical Islamic group Ansar al-Islam, has been terminated so far during the operation. Frsan Salih Ilwan who held a fake Iraq I.D by the name of Mian Wasni Taha was responsible for the radical Islamic group’s activity in Kirkuk.

The operation is still underway and firefights have not ceased in the Dafuq district, however the National Security Force and the assisting Iraqi and Kirkuk Forces have been able to largely clear the area of terrorist inhabitants so far.

The Kurdistan National Security Council — created earlier this year — is composed of the Asaish agency, the General Directorate of Military Intelligence and the Kurdistan region’s security and information agencies.
