Left group DHKP/C (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front) has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack which yesterday left two people dead at the US Embassy in Ankara.

Soon after the explosion, on Friday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had said he was certain the attack had been carried out by the DHKP/C.

A photo of the suspect suicide bomber was broadcast last night. The suspect attacker was named as 30-year-old Ecevit Şanlı.

Speaking to Haberturk, last night, PM Erdoğan said “The suicide bomber exploded the bomb right after crossing [the personnel entry] and died in the explosion. A birth mark on his head proves [his identity], but DNA tests will be carried out to make sure. It is clear that he is a member of DHKP/C. He has perpetrated such attacks before.”

On Saturday the governor's office released a statement saying that the bomber had detonated some 6 kilos of TNT and used a hand granade as well in the attack.
