President Nechirvan Barzani received United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Mark Bryson Richardson and his accompanying delegation in Erbil today.

The meeting discussed the latest political developments in Iraq, nomination of a candidate for the position of the next Iraqi prime minister, Erbil-Baghdad relations and their pending disputes especially in regards to oil and gas issues, the latest attack on Khor Mor gas field and last week’s attack on a tourist resort in Zakho.

Both sides agreed on the importance of resolving Erbil-Baghdad differences and formation of a federal government that leads to lasting security and political stability in the country, provides public services and job opportunities, and responds to the demands of the people of Iraq.

On this issue, President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated the importance of continuing the dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government to resolve their pending disagreements, especially in the field of oil and gas. The President deemed it necessary that the next Iraqi government’s foremost priority be the resolution of Erbil-Baghdad disputes.

The upcoming elections and the importance of unity among political parties in the Kurdistan Region, the status of Shingal district, the bilateral relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the neighboring countries, the latest developments in Syria and other topics of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting which was also attended by the UK Consul General in Erbil, Mr. David Hunt.
