Turkey Suspends Flights to Sulaymaniyah International Airport

According to a statement posted on Twitter by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry has suspended flights to Sulaymaniyah International Airport in the Kurdistan Region citing worries about the actions of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The statement claimed that the decision made after the PKK's intensified activities in the city of Sulaymaniyah and its infiltration into the airport, which poses a threat to aviation security.

Turkish airspace has been closed to any aircraft intending to use Sulaymaniyah International Airport for landing and takeoff from April 3, 2023.

The suspension is expected to be in effect until July 3, 2023, and will be reviewed in light of developments that will be closely monitored until that date.
