Iraqi Parliamentary Finance Committee Holds Crucial Meeting to Finalize Federal General Budget Law

In a significant development, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Parliamentary Finance Committee on Wednesday. The session, attended by committee chairman Atwan Al-Atwani and all its members, aimed to put the finishing touches on the Federal General Budget Law for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.

During the meeting, Al-Mandalawi lauded the diligent efforts of the Finance Committee in intensifying discussions and hosting both morning and evening sessions. These endeavors played a vital role in expediting the completion of the budget law project. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made and noted that the discussions on the project's provisions had reached the final stages.

Over the past few days, the Finance Committee engaged in fruitful dialogues with various stakeholders, including ministers and governors. These consultations aimed to ascertain the financial allocations required by each sector and determine the priority areas for expenditure. Notably, the committee's deliberations involved considerations for the financial needs of newly appointed individuals with higher degrees, top achievers, lecturers, and other deserving segments.

The First Deputy Speaker emphasized that the Federal General Budget Law for the three-year period places a significant emphasis on addressing service-related matters, supporting strategic projects, and allocating resources to foster regional development. This approach aligns with the overarching goal of ensuring equitable distribution and targeted allocation of funds.
