Unidentified Drone Targets Suspected PKK Presence in Kurdistan Region's Chamchamal, Casualties Feared

Turkish Drone Attack Raises Tensions in Agh Jalar Subdistrict

Chamchamal, Kurdistan Region - Early Wednesday, an unidentified drone struck targets in the Tutaqal village, located in the Agh Jalar subdistrict of Chamchamal, raising concerns over potential casualties. The targeted area is suspected to house militants affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

At approximately 7:00 AM local time, the drone attack occurred, reminiscent of a similar incident last year when a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle in the same region, resulting in casualties. Turkey has escalated its drone strikes against the PKK, designating the group as a terrorist organization.

The Kurdistan Region’s counter-terrorism directorate, responsible for updating the public on such incidents, has not yet commented on the latest attack. The lack of information adds to the growing tension in the region, where recent clashes between Turkish forces and PKK militants have claimed the lives of at least 12 Turkish soldiers in Duhok province.

Officials in the Kurdistan Region have consistently urged both parties to move their conflicts away from populated areas, emphasizing the evacuation of hundreds of villages. The ongoing clashes highlight the persistent challenges in the region, where the specter of violence looms large.
