Turkish Airstrikes Claim Lives of Kurdish Civilians in Shiladze, Kurdistan Region

In a tragic turn of events, two civilians lost their lives and another sustained injuries as Turkish warplanes conducted airstrikes in the village of Dewke, situated in the Shiladze border area of the Kurdistan Region. The incident occurred on Friday, March 8, sending shockwaves through the local community.

According to Rizgar Sarki, the district governor of Shiladze, the Turkish warplanes unleashed a barrage of bombings on the village, targeting innocent civilians who had ventured out to collect spring plants in the serene surroundings. The airstrikes resulted in the deaths of Saeed Mubarak, born in 1986, and Aras Faraj, born in 1995, both residents of Bareske village in Shiladze district. Tragically, Saleh Mubarak, the brother of Saeed Mubarak, was also caught in the assault and sustained severe injuries.

The ongoing conflicts between the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Turkey along the border areas of the Kurdistan Region continue to exact a heavy toll on the lives and livelihoods of the local populace. The violence has ravaged nearly 800 villages and numerous tourist destinations, predominantly concentrated in Duhok province. The agricultural and tourism sectors, vital for the region's economy, have suffered significant setbacks due to the relentless clashes.

Recent statistics underscore the severity of the situation, with 274 villages in Duhok province evacuated as a result of the conflicts. Among these, 250 villages in Amedi district and 24 villages in Akre district have been forcibly emptied due to the escalating hostilities. Furthermore, clashes have forced the evacuation of 47 villages in Zakho, amplifying the humanitarian crisis gripping the region.

The devastating consequences of the Turkish airstrikes serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for peaceful resolution and stability in the border areas of the Kurdistan Region. As the communities grapple with the aftermath of yet another tragic incident, calls for an end to the violence resonate louder than ever, echoing the collective desire for lasting peace and security in the region.
